WHAT TO EXPECT

WORKING WITH US

SCREENING

We want to make sure we can provide what you need. We ask for a brief (5-10 minute) chat on the phone before your first appointment to make sure we have a reasonable expectation of being able to help you. This brief screening call can be completed either before or after you schedule your first appointment.

FIRST APPOINTMENT

We read your complete Intake Form before you arrive. Once you’re here, we spend time making sure we understand your individual situation. For both abdominal adhesions and lymphedema, we will take pictures that you can find in your health record to document your baseline. This helps us to visually see progress through your time with us. We may also take various measurements with a soft tape measure if there is swelling present.

In the case of lymphedema, we will also complete an ABI if you have not had one in the last 12 months, especially if compression wraps will be a part of your care. Depending on your situation, we may ask you to get further imaging or labs to ensure our treatment is safe for you.

WHAT TO WEAR

For both abdominal adhesion and lymphedema care, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (such as baggy shorts with easy-to-move waistline and a baggy top with loose sleeves or no sleeves). If you are wearing compression, just wear the looser clothing over the top, if possible. During different parts of the treatment, we may ask you to disrobe to complete the treatment; we will provide privacy and coverings to maintain your safety and modesty.

OUR PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE

You are in charge.

Our single guiding principle in our clinical practice is patient autonomy … YOUR autonomy. In order to make sure we are truly listening to you, we keep ourselves up to date in Motivational Interviewing practices.

We’ll be clear about how we can help.

It will always be your decision on how to move forward. We will help you to understand all of the options available to you. We will also be clear and honest if, or when, we don’t think our care is the best you can do.

Provider continuity.

We do our best to make sure you’re seeing the same clinician regularly. This is fairly easy with a staff of two! We often provide care jointly in the same visit.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSIONS

Please bring your complete list of questions so we can be sure to address and perhaps help to prioritize your concerns.
